Prickly Pear Seed Oil
Prickly Pear Seed Oil, extracted from the seeds of the prickly pear cactus (also known as Opuntia ficus-indica or Barbary fig), is renowned for its remarkable skincare benefits. This oil is my absolute favorite facial oil! This is Markey.
Here are some reasons why it's considered extraordinary:
- Powerful Antioxidant Properties
- Conditioning
- Soothing and Calming
- Brightening and Evening Skin
- Non-comedogenic
Properties antibacterial (inhibits bacteria growth), does not clog pores, soaks in effortlessly, excellent oil (our favorite oil), hydrates, nourishes, protects, and rejuvenates the skin
Shelf Life and Storage Information for Our Products and Ingredients
Finished Products - generally don't need to be refrigerated as they are preserved, but you can refrigerate them to extend their shelf life. The shelf life for most products is 9-12 months. Vitamin C Serum(s) and VitaResurface products should continually be refrigerated to extend their shelf life.
Sample Sizes - do have a shorter shelf life (generally 3-6 months), and items in jars can dry up quicker than this if the lid is not tightened well enough (Vitamin C Serums - use within 90 days).
Please keep your products out of humidity, heat, direct light and in a dark cabinet when possible:Exfoliating Acid - products have a shelf life of 9-12 months. The only things we don't suggest refrigerating are the Mandelic Acid Serums or Salicylic Acid Serums, as they can crystallize in the refrigerator. If this happens, you can set the product into a hot water bath to see if the crystals will dissolve.
Additional Items That Require Refrigeration and/or Kept in the Dark:Hydrosols and Distillates - remove 1 ounce of hydrosol and add it into a separate, sterilized spray bottle and spritzer. Keep the larger bottle in the refrigerator.
Carrier and Exotic Oils - generally, you can refrigerate all carrier oils, although some very rich oils will solidify. This is fine. All you have to do is take it out, warm it up at room temperature and it should liquefy. If not, set the bottle in a hot water bath and occasionally shake the bottle, which will hopefully turn into a liquid. There are some oils with a super long shelf life, like Coconut Cream and Jojoba Oil.
Refrigeration is not necessary, but it surely won't hurt:Essential Oils - essential oils are best stored in a cool, dark place.
Co2 Extracts - these should continually be refrigerated.
Butters - we suggest refrigerating our "skincare" butters. You can remove
what you need and keep the rest in the fridge.
Clays - keep in a dry, dark place. Shelf life is at least 2 years.
Herbs - all herbs (whole or ground) should be kept in a dark, cool and dry location.
Herbal (liquid) Extracts - these are created using alcohol. The alcohol pulls the constituents (properties) from each herbs - root, trunk, leaves, and flowers. They have a shelf life of 3-5 years. They can be kept in the refrigerator or a dark place.
Other Raw Ingredients - i.e., Sodium PCA, Honeyquat, Oat Beta Glucan, etc.
will all have a different shelf life.

This stuff is really nice. I tried to buy some from a couple other companies (sorry) because I find that the price is a bit high here for a 1 oz bottle (sorry again). Both of the others were thinner, lighter in color, and had a much more subtle smell. Personally, I prefer Garden Of Wisdom's prickly pear oil. I don't understand what makes theirs so special because the other brands I found were also organic and cold pressed and mention "nutty aroma and deep golden color" on the bottle. But GOW still has much darker "stronger" (maybe more highly concentrated?) oil, I don't understand.
Hi Anna!
We're really glad you are liking the Prickly Pear!
We import ours from Morocco directly so we couldn't know for sure why other brands are cheaper but we have heard there are companies out there that dilute their oil. The other oils having a lighter color, perhaps that is what is happening or perhaps other lines are refined or processed in a different way. Ours is cold pressed and unrefined! :)
The prickly pear oil is light and penetrates into the skin quickly. It leaves
my face looking refreshed in the morning!
Thank you for your kind review! We're so happy to hear that you love our Prickly Pear Seed Oil. It's great to know that it leaves your skin looking refreshed and absorbs quickly. We hope you continue to enjoy the benefits of this product. Thank you for choosing our brand!
This is a fantastic product. Leaves my skin hydrated and smooth. I found your website threw reading how World famous Nigella Lawson loves this product. If she's happy that says alot.
Thank you for the review, Donna :-)
Nigella is certainly knowledgable in all areas of skin care.
We are honored to be in her company if only for a post.
Markey
Thank you Markey for recommending this oil. Use a few drops with Advanced Telomere and two months has made marvelous difference but noticed change in 10 days. Also use it with neck firming then rub hands through hair then on top of hands.
Thank you so much for your review! :)
I am really enjoying this prickly pear seed oil. I use three drops to keep my skin from drying out in the winter season. I have a tendency for acne and my skin is looking very healthy.
Thank you for taking the time to review our Prickly Pear Seed Oil!! We really appreciate you :)
