Garden of Wisdom's Oat Beta Glucans could be a noninvasive alternative to Botox, the popular treatment for smoothing out wrinkles by injecting botulinum into the muscle. Some parties are believed to already be conducting research and development in this area.
In preliminary research, oat beta glucans are being studied for their potential immunomodulatory effects, anti-tumor properties, and stimulation of collagen deposition, tissue granulation, re-epithelization, and macrophage infiltration in the wound healing process.

Shelf Life and Storage Information for Our Products and Ingredients

Finished Products - generally don't need to be refrigerated as they are preserved, but you can refrigerate them to extend their shelf life. The shelf life for most products is 9-12 months. Vitamin C Serum(s) and VitaResurface products should continually be refrigerated to extend their shelf life.
Sample Sizes - do have a shorter shelf life (generally 3-6 months), and items in jars can dry up quicker than this if the lid is not tightened well enough (Vitamin C Serums - use within 90 days).
Please Keep Your Products Out of Humidity, Heat, Direct Light and in a Dark Cabinet When Possible

Exfoliating Acid - products have a shelf life of 9-12 months. The only things we don't suggest refrigerating are the Mandelic Acid Serums or Salicylic Acid Serums, as they can crystallize in the refrigerator. If this happens, you can set the product into a hot water bath to see if the crystals will dissolve.

Additional Items That Require Refrigeration and/or Kept in the Dark

Hydrosols and Distillates - remove 1 ounce of hydrosol and add it to a separate, sterilized spray bottle and spritzer. Keep the larger bottle in the refrigerator.
Carrier and Exotic Oils - generally refrigerate all carrier oils, although some very rich oils will solidify. This is fine. All you have to do is take the oil out, warm it up at room temperature, and it should liquefy. If not, set the bottle in a hot water bath and occasionally shake the bottle, which will hopefully turn into a liquid. Some oils, like coconut cream and jojoba oil, have a super long shelf life.

Refrigeration of The Following Ingredients is Not Necessary, But it Won't hurt

Essential Oils - essential oils are best stored in a cool, dark place.
Co2 Extracts - these should continually be refrigerated.
Butters - we suggest refrigerating our "skincare" butters. You can remove
what you need and keep the rest in the fridge.
Clays - keep in a dry, dark place. Shelf life is at least 2 years.
Herbs All herbs (whole or ground) should be kept in a dark, cool, and dry location.
Herbal (liquid) Extracts are created using grain alcohol. The alcohol pulls the constituents (properties) from each herb, root, trunk, leaf, and flower. They have a shelf life of 3-5 years.
They can be stored in the refrigerator or a dark, dry place.
Other Raw Ingredients - such as Sodium PCA, Honeyquat, Oat Beta Glucan, etc., will all have different shelf lives.

More than being useful solely in cosmetics settings, however, beta glucan gains practical, medical credibility from the (below) study, which supports its use to promote wound healing and reduce scarring after surgical procedures.

Notes from (1) of many studies

"The first part of the study, published in the latest issue of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science (vol. 27; issue 5; p 292), involved a single application of 5mg of 0.5 percent beta glucan per cm2 of abdominal skin. The beta-glucan contained a dye, so that its progress through the skin could be measured. The researchers found that it did, indeed penetrate the skin – a process described as being similar to the way water penetrates a brick wall.

“It does not go through the brick, it goes through the concrete binding the bricks together," he said. "As a result of our study, we now know that glucan works through the inter-cellular lipid matrix, or the cells' cement, to enter the lower levels of the skin.”

Next, a clinical study group of 27 subjects applied beta-glucan to fine lines and wrinkles on their faces over an eight-week period. Using digital image analysis of silicone replicas, they determined that there was a significant reduction of wrinkle depth and height, and that the skin was less rough.

Redmond said that consumers may expect to see results in as little as ten days. His conclusion is that there is evidence to support the use of oat beta-glucan in the “care and maintenance of healthy skin and the cosmetic treatment of the signs of aging”.

Great Quality product

Used this in a skincare formulation and it boosted hydration the way I was looking for.

Hi Derena!
Oh, this is so awesome to hear. We use this in a lot of our formulations exactly for that reason.
It's so nice to hear you are having success.

Healing & Nourishing

I love the simplicity of this formula. This makes a great nourishing and healing serum. I have to be careful with hyaluronic acid (all molecular weights) and retinol/al(s), all which tend to dehydrate my skin. Oat beta glucans bring it back to life!

Alyssa
⋆.˚✮ ✮˚.⋆ for leaving a review for our Oat Beta Glucans. We use this ingredient in a lot of our formulas as it is extremely healing and soothing to the skin. Actually, years ago there was a customer who did a study on this ingredient and found so many favorable reviews and testimonials from people with extreme burns and it fascinated us. Kudos to the dear lady! We're so glad to hear that it has been nourishing and healing for your skin. It's great to know that it's a helpful alternative for those who may have sensitivities to other ingredients like hyaluronic acid and retinol.
We’re so grateful you took the time to write us.
Wishing your skin continued comfort and balance during this journey.♡

Impressed!

I have dealt with post inflammatory erythema (PIE) on my cheeks for over two years now. I've tried every type of product said to help it fade, such as daily SPF 50, vitamin C, niacinamide, azelaic acid, transexamic acid, and more. I've even resorted to at-home treatments such as microneedling. None of these ever gave me noticeable results, and I'm sure you can imagine after two years I was feeling pretty frustrated. I recently stumbled across a forum post about beta glucan for PIE scars and they mentioned this brand— I did a little research and bought this right away.

I was really shocked at the results! About a week into application twice a day, I'm seeing improvement in my PIE and general redness. The borders of the scars have blurred, and they look less superficial, hence the color has lightened. I've never seen such quick improvement with any product, not even ones upwards of 100 dollars. For reference, I am an East Asian female in her early 20s with fair and dry skin and I apply this after a watery toner. I did have a brief bout of what seemed like purging or contact dermatitis, however it's unclear to me if it was truly this product.

I greatly appreciate the simplicity of the product and the minimal additives used, not to mention the price point. I can't wait to try more from this brand, especially considering all of the ingredients available for individual purchase. Truly a skincare lover's dream!

Thank you so much for this review! Oat Beta Glucans are awesome :)
